James E. Norton

Loudonville, NY-James Edward Norton, 81, of Loudonville, New York, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2026 surrounded by his loving family. Born on October 23, 1944, in West Albany, New York, Jim was raised in Colonie, where he spent his childhood surrounded by family and formed many friendships that stayed with him throughout his life. Jim was predeceased by his parents, John J. Norton and Florence (Kross) Norton, and his brother, John “Jack” Norton. He is survived by his daughters, Lisa Marini (Steve) and Jill Ann Norton; his beloved grandson, James David Dixon; his sister-in-law, Carol Norton, his brothers, Robert Norton (Barbara) and Thomas Norton (Kathy); and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A respected home builder and developer in the Capital Region, Jim spent many years alongside his brother Jack through Norton Home Builders, which they founded in 1969. For over 40 years, Jim and Jack built homes “right from the ground up,” creating neighborhoods and homes that became cherished place for generations of families. The homes they built stand as a lasting reflection of their craftsmanship, dedication, and commitment to doing things the right way. Jim was a devoted father and proud grandfather. He was someone his daughters could always count on. He had a great sense of humor, loved to joke around, and had a nickname for nearly everyone he knew. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, a round of golf, and a cold beer after a day on the golf course or after a day’s work. Nothing brought Jim more happiness than being “Poppy” to his grandson, James, who was proudly named after him. He lovingly referred to James as his “Big Guy” and rarely missed a baseball game, traveling near and far to cheer him on. Whether it was rainy day, the heat of summer, or a long drive to the next field, his favorite saying was, “No whining in baseball.” He loved sharing in James’s interests and was always proud to wear the same shoes, hats, or anything else his grandson thought was cool. It was one of the many little ways he showed his love and admiration for him. Jim will be remembered for his humor, his steady presence, his dedication to his family, the homes he built throughout the Capital Region, and the many memories he created with those who knew him. Funeral services Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at 12:00 pm at St. Pius X Church, 23 Crumitie Road, Loudonville, NY where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated.
