Iselene Almeta Sanders

ALBANY - Ms. Iselene Almeta (Davis) Sanders, daughter of the late Hopson and Florence Davis was born January 14, 1939, in Pamplico, S.C. She passed away peacefully at home on September 26, 2024. She was educated in the Pamplico School system. Iselene relocated in her young adult years with her only daughter, Annie Mae, to Albany, N.Y. Iselene, also known as "Tiny" or "Lil Bit", worked as a machinist at Williams Press Co. for many years. Upon their closing, she continued at Tagsons Paper Co. & Fort Orange Press. After retiring from the paper industry, she began a career with the City of Albany's Dept of Rec in the gardening division receiving several awards for her excellent gardening skills. She received a proclamation from the City of Albany fully recognizing her talent. Upon retiring, she continued her passion for gardening at her home as well as her neighbors' homes with beautiful flowers and vegetables year after year. She was a lifelong member of Welcome Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and spent many years doing whatever was needed to be done. She is survived by her daughter, Annie M. (Sanders) Fitzgerald (William Douglas); granddaughter, Camisha M. (Young) Lundy (Lamar); great-grandchildren, Quayvaun Young, Khadijah Davis and Chrisiah Smith; great-great-grandson, Jeremias Morton; one brother, Pastor James D. Davis (Linda); two sisters, Rev. Bessie Fitzgerald and Ernestine Davis; also many nieces and nephews, with special thanks to Mae and Mary Sydnor, Tashon Travis, Christopher, Nathaniel and Christian Davis. Also survived by lifelong best friend, Arlene Young; goddaughter, Hope Young; adopted daughter, Donna Smallarz; cherished neighbors, Dan and Marie, Jim and Kathy, Cynthia, Maggie, Ann and so many others too numerous to mention. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her siblings, Albertha Woodbury, Eva Mae, Edward, Berta Mae, C.D. Ida Mae, Marvin Richard, Johnny Lee and Daniel Lee. Visiting hours begin at 10 a.m. and will be held at Welcome Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 124 Chestnut Street, Albany, N.Y., on Friday, October 4, with funeral services immediately following. Interment at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Thank you to her caregivers from Community Hospice-Rosemary, Corrie, Michelle, Eileen, Betsy, Steve, Stephen, Ms. Oliver, Wendy and Victoria.
