Glenn Thomas Smith

Kinderhook-The Family of Glenn Thomas Smith wishes to announce his passing on September 15th. Glenn was the middle child to Joseph and Vera Smith (Stankus). He grew up in the heart of Albany with his two brothers, Joe and Jim doing their best to embody the Three Stooges much to their mother’s chagrin. Glenn attended Christian Brother’s Academy and earned the nickname “Snake” for his ability to weave down the basketball court. With a can-do attitude towards building or fixing just about anything, Glenn went on to become a self-taught builder, mechanical engineer, mechanic, plumber, electrician, computer whiz…pretty much anything he could build or put back together with his hands. Glenn served as a volunteer firefighter for Malta Ridge, and held jobs with Schaefer Brewery, Hilti Fastening Systems, and served as a Code Enforcement Officer in Columbia County. Glenn met the love of his life, Geraldine Paul in a bar (though both swear they didn’t frequent bars) and the two were inseparable for the next 48 years. Taking his “Mr. Fix It” game to a new level, Glenn built 3 houses for his family while holding down fulltime jobs. Glenn was always ready to lend a hand for family and friends. If he could build or fix it, he’d offer his assistance. When he wasn’t building or fixing something for family or friends, Glenn could be found riding his tractor around his expansive and pristine lawn or watching one of the thousands of movies he collected over the years. Glenn also loved flying and bought himself a plane so he could cruise around in his “sports car in the sky.” He could be seen zipping all around the Hudson Valley, tipping his wings as he flew over his house in Kinderhook. He is survived by his wife, Geraldine (Gerry) Smith of Kinderhook, NY, daughter Carly Smith (Maggie D’Elia) of Arlington, VA, and son Kevin Smith (Lisa Luvera) of Niskayuna, NY and his two Vizslas, Abby and Gabby. Relishing his role as “Grampsie”, Glenn is also survived by his 4 grandchildren: Gavin and Grayson D’Elia-Smith, and Ben and Natalie Smith, and his Aunts and many cousins. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Glenn’s family Tuesday, September 20, 2022 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm in the McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany, NY 12206. Funeral services Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at 10:30 am at Blessed Sacrament Church, 607 Central Ave., (Father John Bradley Way) Albany, NY 12206 where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated.
