Genevieve Rudzinski

Albany-Genevieve (Genowefa) Rudzinski passed away on April 20, 2017 after a brief illness. She was born in Zbeczkow, Poland on September 15, 1924 to Joseph Majewski and Michalina Matusiak Majewska. Loving wife of the late Joseph Rudzinski, and cherished mother of Thaddeus Rudzinski (Kathleen) and Anna Zurowski (Tadeusz). Genevieve followed her husband Joseph by emigrating to the United States from Poland with her son Teddy in 1949; Anna was later born here. Genevieve and Joseph had a full and joyous life together and traveled to Poland many times to visit with family and old friends. She was the absolute center of our family and she enjoyed cooking and preparing for family get togethers and holidays – until she could do it no longer and passed the cooking torch to Kathy, Ted and Anna. They could prepare those Polish foods, but never as good as she. Genevieve loved to play cards and was gleeful and gloated when, at 92, she went home a winner often beating her own children at Poker. In so many ways, our mother was an inspiration to all of us. We simply adored her and we will miss her beyond measure. Babcia’s love for her family was infinite. She is survived by her beautiful granddaughters Elaine (Eddie) Miano; Christina Rudzinski; Denise (Nathan) Lawrence, Jennifer (Joseph) Hulett and Genevieve Zurowski, her “partner” and namesake. Great-Babcia of Austin, Taylor, Kieran, Tessa, Ella, Aidan and Avery. Genevieve survived her siblings Stanislawa Olejniczak, Janina Fialkowska, Henry and Edward (Krystyna) Majewski. Genevieve leaves behind her cherished friend and sister-in-law Janina Rudzinski; nephew Andrew Rudzinski (Margo) and nieces Irene Rudzinski-Keefe (Lionel), Helena (Ludwik) Zagorski and Elizabeth Lamprecht as well as nieces and nephews here and a large extended family in Poland. The family is grateful to the 4th floor medical staff at Memorial Hospital for their kindness and excellent care during our mother’s illness and our deep appreciation to Susan Ellnor of AccuCare for Mom’s daily needs. Our family wishes to especially thank Dr. Keith Rebehn who always took such great care of Genevieve, our Dad and all of us. We rely on him so much for his wisdom, sound advice, his support and friendship -- he is our blessing. Viewing hours will be held at McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 No. Allen Street, Albany on Sunday from 4 to 7 pm; and Mass will be celebrated at 10 am on Monday at Holy Spirit Church, 667 Columbia Turnpike, East Greenbush.
