Evariste (Garry) G. Lavigne Jr.

LAGO VISTA, TX-Evariste (Garry) G. Lavigne, Jr., 88, son of the late Evariste and Winifred Lavigne(Stanton) passed peacefully into eternal life on Tuesday, July 21, 2026. Born March 22, 1938, Garry graduated from Christian Brothers Academy in 1955. He went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree from Siena College and then graduated from Albany Law School in 1961. Upon graduating from Albany Law School he began his career as an attorney alongside his father the late Evariste G. Lavigne Sr. He held several other positions throughout his career: Confidential Court Attendant to Supreme Court Justice Russell G. Hunt, Assistant Public Defender of Albany County, Assistant Counsel to Albany County Bureau of Delinquent Taxes and Assistant Distract Attorney of Albany County. He also worked in private practice with Arnold Proskin and William Toomey. He was the beloved husband of Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Robillard Lavigne, his high school sweetheart and wife of sixty six years. He was a devoted family man and father to the late Douglas J. LaVigne, surviving daughters Karen (David) Wagner and Linda LaVigne and also his three grandchildren: Sean Wagner, Conor Wagner and Ryan Wagner, as well as his brothers and sister, the late Donald (Heather) Lavigne, Dr. Richard (Kathy) Lavigne, Suzanne (Dennis) Lavigne Mest and Dr. Gregory (Jane) Lavigne as well as many nieces and nephews. He was an active member of Ancient Order of Hibernians, Father Henry Tansey Division 5, Albany. He served as the Grand Marshall of the Albany St. Patrick’s Day parade, Historian and two terms as President. He and Betty enjoyed their many trips to Ireland with family and friends. He was a devout Roman Catholic and enjoyed studying church history and Catholicism. He was a history buff and was particularly interested in WWII. He loved to cook and was always looking for new recipes. Anything he made on the grill and his Beef Bourguignon were family favorites. Please enter the funeral home from the rear parking lot entrance only. Funeral Services Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at Blessed Sacrament Church, 607 Central Ave. (Rev. John Bradley Way), Albany, NY 12206 at 10:30 am where his funeral Mass will be celebrated. The Rite of Committal will immediately follow at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands, NY.
