Ernest E. Preville

Albany-Ernest Edward Preville (92) passed away 8/31/2022 at our Lady of Mercy, Guilderland. Ernie was born in Rutland, VT, October 30, 1929 to Mildred and Francis Preville; he moved to Albany, NY as a young child. He married Lucille Geitner on August 13, 1949. Together they raised one daughter, Michele (Shelley) Carey of Colonie. Ernie served in the US Air Force and was stationed at Edward Air Force Base, CA. He worked for Central Dairy, Albany, until the plant closed, Borden’s in Menands and Albany High School, retiring as Head Custodian. Ernie’s favorite hobby was bowling with family and friends (Horan’s Bowling League). He and his family enjoyed the parties with their league members and shared many special friendships. Sadly, many of those friends have predeceased him. Ernie will be remembered as honest, hard working, and who enjoyed a good laugh, beer with the “Breakfast Club” at Joe’s or a ginger brandy at Sunset Recreation Lounge, and the Sunday picnics and outings with his best friend Don MacMartin and his family. He was always willing to help anyone whenever it was needed. Ernie is survived by his daughter Michele, his granddaughter Cassandra Carey, his sister Yvonne Snyder, and his brother Oliver (Jean) Preville. He was predeceased by his wife Lucy and Son-in-Law (Tim Carey) in 2012, his brothers Frederick (Bob), Adelord, Harold (Poozie), Donald, and many close friends, including his wife’s sister Marian Preville. He is survived by many nieces and nephews, including Darlene Preville, who always looked in on him when needed, and Ed Snyder, who stopped by with many delicious homemade meals, and Melanie Micare, who always made him laugh and helped around the house. At Ernie’s request, there will be no viewing or service. He will be cremated and his remains interred, with his wife, at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at a later date.
