Edward Norman Koury

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edward Norman Koury, age 89, born March 5, 1936 in Oneonta, New York and peacefully departed this life surrounded by loving family on Saturday, July 19th, 2025 at Saint Peters Hospital, Albany, New York. He leaves behind a legacy of extraordinary service, unwavering dedication, and deep family devotion that will be cherished by all who knew him. Edward pursued his higher education with distinction, earning his bachelor's degree from Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York, followed by his master's degree from Ohio University. His commitment to learning and excellence would become hallmarks of his character throughout his remarkable life. Edward proudly served his country for over two decades in the United States Army, retiring with the distinguished rank of Lieutenant Colonel. His military career was marked by exceptional service, including deployment with the First Calvary during the Vietnam War. His courage, leadership, and dedication to his fellow servicemen earned him the Bronze Star Medal as well as numerous military honors and commendations recognizing his valor and service to our nation. This service exemplified the highest ideals of duty, honor, and country, and he carried these values with him throughout his life. Following his distinguished military career, Edward continued his professional journey dedicating another 24 years of service to CT Male Associates Engineering where he brought the same level of commitment and integrity that defined his military service. Lieutenant Colonel Koury was a devoted family man who found his greatest joy with his family, and of course, watching his beloved New York Yankees. Edward is predeceased by his loving wife Antoinette (Ferri), his parents Sadie and Mary (Joseph) Koury, in-laws Joseph and Maria Ferri, sisters Marion, Susie, Nora, Jane, Esther and Rita and his brothers, Nageeb, Joseph (Shirley), Charlie and Ernest. He is survived by his four loving children Ann, Deborah, Stephen (Carmela Acito), and Lisa Marie, his eleven grandchildren Stephanie (Alex), Rachel (Luke), Joshua (Heather), Rebecca, William, Alessandra, Gregory, Jessica, Daniel, Matthew, John, and Norajane, and his five great-grandchildren Maxwell, Charlotte, Luke III, Coralai, Walker and Nathan. He is also survived by his dear sister Elizabeth (Koury) and brother-in-law Ralph Enokian, who remained his closest companions throughout life as well as nieces, Elizabeth (Robert), Nancy (Dave), Linda (Fred), and Cynthia, and nephews Thomas (Allison) and Joseph (Mary) and their families. His family members see him as a pillar of strength, wisdom, and unconditional love, a man who taught by example the importance of service, integrity, and family devotion. Edward lived a life of purpose, service, and love. His memory will forever be honored by those whose lives he touched and his legacy of service to the country and family will continue to inspire future generations. Our family would like to express extreme gratitude to all of the caregivers (Mindy, Julia, Carol, Lora, Jodia, Shermaine, Lisa, Veronica, Emilie, Christine and Raphael) who helped our father throughout his final months in the comfort of his home. A military burial at 2:00 PM Oneonta Plains Cemetery, 39 Clover Street, Oneonta, New York 13820. A graveside prayer service to follow (approximately 2:30 -2:45 PM) conducted by Reverend Alisa Halliday.
