Daniel Joseph Serviss

Albany-Daniel Joseph Serviss, 47, passed suddenly at Albany Medical Center on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 after a brief illness. Born in Fort Huachuca, AZ at the US Army base, he was the beloved son of Richard and Ellen Healy Serviss of Fort Myers, FL and formerly Colonie, NY. Dan was a 1986 graduate of Colonie Central High School and graduated from Hudson Valley Community College in 1991 with a degree in Criminal Justice. He completed a twenty year career with the New York State Office of Children and Family Services at the Tryon Residential Center and Brookwood Secure Center where he was known for his integrity and respected by many people. Since 2014 Dan was employed by Statewood Properties in Albany and Latham as Contractor Coordinator/Property Manager where his construction expertise and vision were honored and valued. Dan deeply loved his family and was enormously proud of his greatest accomplishment, his daughter Afton. His family is grateful to him for being our rock for so many years, for finishing the fixer upper at Brant Lake, and for bringing so many wonderful friends into our lives. Some people tell stories. Dan lived the story. And he didn’t care how you peeled the banana; he just wanted the banana. He was the beloved husband of 16 years of Susan Hager Serviss; cherished father of Afton Serviss; brother of Eric Serviss (Jennifer), Philip Serviss, and Catherine Taylor (Shawn); uncle of PFC Liam Serviss, US Army National Guard, Emma Serviss, Kayla Serviss, Kristen Serviss, Cayman Serviss-Ziegler and Ethan Taylor; son-in-law of Richard and Mary Hager of Ravena. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Dan’s family Friday, June 24, 2016 4:00 to 7:00 pm in the McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany. Funeral services Saturday, June 25, 2016 9:00 am from the McVeigh Funeral Home, Albany thence to the First Reformed Church of Bethlehem, Selkirk at 10:00 am.
