Bryan "Bruno" J. Pettit

Bryan Pettit of Brunswick, NY, went to join Pop and Mom and entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, March 24, 2026. He was born on May 19, 1958, in Albany, NY, the youngest of four children. Known affectionately as “Bruno” to many, Bryan was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Joan Pettit, his in-laws Russ and Margaret Patrie, and by his sister and brother-in-law, JoAnn and Chic Burkhartt. He leaves behind his wife, Kit Pettit; his brother, Paul (Kim) Pettit of Rensselaer; and his sister, Debbie (Ray) Engel of Voorheesville. Bryan was a proud and devoted uncle to his nieces, Kim Burns, Jenn Pettit, and Jessie (Jeff) Viola, and his nephews, Eric (Jackie) Burkhartt, Matt (Jackie) Pettit, and Paul Michael Pettit. He is also lovingly remembered by his dear cousins Donna Richardson, Peter (Maureen) Pettit, David Pettit, and Mike (Renee) Pettit, along with many great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family members, including Nancy Caprara and countless friends whose lives he touched. Bryan graduated from Cardinal McCloskey High School before continuing his education at Hudson Valley Community College and the University at Albany. He went on to pursue a career rooted in service to others, working as a New York State Court Officer for more than 20 years, a role he carried out with dedication, pride, and integrity. Bryan loved sports and played whenever he could — at least until his knees decided otherwise. A cancer survivor, he bravely battled and defeated colon cancer more than 15 years ago, a testament to his strength and resilience. He found joy in life’s simple and meaningful moments: fishing and hunting with cousins (and the SLOB group), a tradition he cherished deeply for the memories and connection it brought, the quiet beauty of daily sunsets at his lake house, traveling throughout the Capital Region to watch Kit’s band perform, and most of all, spending time with family and friends. Bryan was also a proud and active member, serving as Secretary of Blue Friday of New York, honoring the lives and sacrifices of fallen officers. Anyone who knew Bryan knew a few things for certain — he was a loyal New York Yankees fan, a hopeful New York Jets fan, enjoyed NASCAR, and a devoted Garth Brooks enthusiast (always ready to karaoke“Friends in Low Places”). He loved his comedic and action heroes, John Belushi and Chuck Norris, and never missed an opportunity to share his love of them. "Nothing is over until we decide it is!" - Belushi. He was a proud son of a Marine veteran and a lifelong admirer of military aviation, especially the Blue Angels and the movie Top Gun, which perfectly captured his spirit of unwavering loyalty and camaraderie. “Fly high, Bryan.
