Bernard J. Connolly, Jr., “Buz”, ALBANY, 84, hung up his jersey on April 15, 2016. He was an accomplished athlete for the Albany Bulldogs and NYC 3rd Dist Navy Basketball. He served as head scorekeeper for Siena Saints Basketball, president of Albany Pop Warner Football and SUNYA Starfish swimming, head coach at Vincentian Grade School Basketball and Westland Hills LL, and was a lifelong Mets, Knicks, and Giants fan. He had a brilliant mind, was a Navy veteran, and an info science pioneer in the 50’s. Buz was a Dir. of Data Processing at NE Blue Cross Blue Shield, worked on info tech for NY State and was an innovator of IT programs for hobby. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Jeanne(Kelly), his children Carol Edwards, David (Randi Schalke), Linda (David Miller), Marc, and Nancy Mulcare (Michael) , grandchildren Nancy Donaghy (Thomas), Richelle Reichard (Erich), Patricia Bremseth (David), Brian Pomykai, Anthony Connolly, Chad Schalke, James, Sean and Patrick Mulcare, great grand- children Kane, Olivia, Cooper, Taylor, Hudson and Victoria, his brothers Robert (Mary Lou) and Gerald, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Moira (Whelan) and Bernard Sr. and his sister Rosalie Gaul. Buz lived for the present and relished those around him. He loved to partake in his children’s and community’s athletic events, dispense jokes and quick wit, engage in chess matches, lively debate, and to espouse knowledge of computers, math, and sports as well as historical lore of his lifelong residence, Albany. He enjoyed days at the lake, singalong variety shows, and classic movies. He is remembered for his tenacity, sense of humor, moral virtue and accepting nature. Funeral services Monday, April 25, 2016 at 8:15 am from the McVeigh Funeral Home, Albany thence to Blessed Sacrament Church, Albany at 9:00 am where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated. The Rite of Interment will be held immediately following the Mass at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands, NY.
