Anthony Joseph Ferrara

Anthony Joseph Ferrara 89, died Saturday, May 24 at the Teresian House surrounded by his loving family. Born in Albany, NY, he was the son of the late Joseph Ferrara and Josephine LaFalce Ferrara. Anthony is survived by his beloved wife, Jane, of 61 years. Anthony was the beloved father of Judith Ferrara Wesley (Charles), and beloved grandfather of Charles Ferrara Wesley and Anthony Joseph Wesley, brother of the late Carmella Ferrara Papa, and beloved uncle of Ernest Amabile (Elaine), Mark S. Amabile, Patricia Amabile Ficalora, and Deborah Amabile Horton (Steven).He is also survived by several great nieces and nephews and great, great nephew Luke Horton. Anthony was a U.S. Army World War II Veteran serving in the Signal Service Battalion. He joined the State Bank of Albany in 1942 and retired as Senior Vice President of Fleet Norstar Bank of Upstate New York in 1988. Anthony attended St. Anthony School and graduated from Cathedral Academy High School. He also graduated from the American Institute of Banking-Albany Chapter, Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University, the NYS Bankers School of Public Relations at Syracuse University, and the Management Development Program at RPI. Anthony served on the Board of Directors and the Finance Committee of the Teresian House, was Board Member Emeritus of the Center for Disabled Services, life member and past president Albany Chapter of the American Institute of Banking and the State Bank’s Quarter Century Club, life member of the Albany-Colonie Regional Chamber of Commerce and past President of the Albany Jaycees, former member of the Board of Associate Trustee Siena College, Finance Chairman of the Annual Columbus Parade Italian Festival, life member and past Treasurer of Wolferts Roost Country Club, and recipient of the Leone D’Oro Award Order Sons of Italy in 1983, the Edward J. Riley Memorial Award 1977 and 1988 United Way Campaign, the Center for the Disabled 1987-88 Most Valuable Player and the Jacob H. Herzog Leadership Award in 2005. Anthony was presiding Chairman of the Albany Water Board, Chairman of the Industrial Development Agency for the city of Albany and Treasurer and Board Member of the Albany Port District Commission appointed by Governor Pataki. He was former Commissioner of the Department of Economic Development for the city of Albany. Funeral Services Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 8:15 am from McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany thence to Parish of Mater Christi, Albany at 9:00 am where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Friday, May 30, 2014 4:00 to 7:00 pm in the funeral home. Interment St. Agnes Cemetery.
