Ann Wittig Bence

Rensselaer-Our dear mother, Anne Wittig Bence ,94 went peacefully to be with the Lord on January 8,2016. She was born in Albany on July 26,1921 to Anna Frances Cain and John Muddle. She graduated from Vincentian Institute in 1938 and worked at the NYS Education Dept for several years until she started to raise a family. In 1948 she married Louis G. Wittig Jr of Albany and together they had five children. Family vacations were a wonderful part of our life with trips all over the country in our travel trailer” Wittig's Wigwam.” We have many wonderful memories and slides to remember. Mom was always devoted to family and loved gatherings with all her children , grandchildren and great-grands over the years. Our father, Louis passed in 1970 when he was 49 years old. Mom continued to raise her family without the love of her Life, and lived to see 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. In 1979 she married Ron Bence and they had a wonderful life together . Ron became our second Dad and was grandfather to all our children. Ron passed in 2006. Mom loved watching golf on TV, belting out her favorite songs from the 40's (accompanied by Gary Gallucci on piano)and until later years doing the New York Times Crossword in ink in about 20 minutes. Anne is survived by her children: Kathleen Wittig Passineau and her partner William Sestrom of Walden, NY; Louis G.Wittig and his wife Li of Albany; Anne M. Wittig and her partner Gary Gallucci of Fonda; John Wittig and Deborah Perez Wittig of Albany; and Mary J.Mabb and her husband Patrick of Rensselaer. She is also survived by her dear sister-in-law, Marion Peters of Albany, 16 grandchildren, 19 great-grandcildren, her step-daughter Carolyn Skyberg and husband Al of Oak Ridge TN and their 3 children and grandchildren , many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Rensselaer County Hospice staff for their support and care during her final days. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Anne’s family Monday, January 11, 2016 4:00 to 7:00 pm in the McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany. Funeral services Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at 8:15 am from the McVeigh Funeral Home, Albany thence to Blessed Sacrament Church, Albany at 9:00 am where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will immediately follow the Mass at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery.
