Ann R. Myers

Albany- Ann R. Myers, passed away suddenly at her home in Albany, NY, on Tuesday, May 19th, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. She was the loving wife for 62 years to her husband Joe, as well as a devoted mother to her two children and doting grandmother to four grandchildren. Born on July 2nd, 1942, in Manhattan, NY, she was the adopted daughter of Gerard and Mary Reimel of Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Ann treasured her family. Her greatest aspiration in life was to be a wife and a mother; she achieved these goals and excelled at both. She is survived by her husband, Joe, her son Michael, her daughter Gabrielle Blake, her daughter-in-law Anne Savage, and grandchildren Sarah, Joshua, Katie, and Alex, and her siblings Miriam “Mimi” Reimel, Anthony “Tony” Reimel, and Gerald “Gerry” Reimel. She reconnected with her birth brother Bernie Devlin in the 1980s, too late to meet her birth mother MaryAnn Kavanaugh. She graduated from Villa Joseph Marie High School in 1960. After attending Chestnut Hill College for two years, she later graduated from Siena College cum laude in 1983 where she received her B.A., majoring in Political Science and Sociology. She began her career working as a legislative aide for the NYS Assembly where she was employed for six years. She brought her legislative experience to several law firms, beginning with O’Connell and Aronowitz in 1987, and ending with Wilson Elser, where she was a legislative director and office manager until 2003. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Ann served for two terms as Village Trustee, and later Mayor of the Village of Athens. She was instrumental in reinstituting the Athens Street Festival, was one of the founders of the Athens Betterment Committee and Athens Volunteer playschool and was a member of the Athens Garden Club. She also served as a volunteer docent for the Thomas Cole House for many years. Very active in politics, she participated in various peaceful demonstrations against war and injustice and worked at the polls during many elections throughout her life. In her spare time she loved to read, take beautiful photographs, cut and arrange flowers, and take walks along the Hudson River. She and her husband, Joe, traveled extensively through Spain and France, as well as Ireland. Ann felt particularly connected to her Irish ancestry, and was thrilled to reconnect with family and visit ancestral gravesites in the towns of Coal Island, and Ardara. She spent many blissful summers at the family cottage on Cape Cod, and happy winters on Florida’s Gulf Coast and Amelia Island. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Ann’s family Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 N. Allen Street, Albany, NY 12206 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Please enter the funeral home from the rear parking lot entrance only. Ann’s Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at the Parish of Mater Christi, 40 Hopewell Street (Rev. Kenneth J. Doyle Way), Albany, NY 12208 at 10:30 am.
