Paul J. Marchand

Albany, NY-Paul J. Marchand, 80, peacefully entered eternal life on November 22, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Huntington, Long Island to the late Henri and Edna (Trudeau), spending many years growing up first in Saratoga and then in the Village of Colonie where he graduated from Colonie High School. During the Vietnam era Paul was a member of the NY Army National Guard (Military Police Unit) and was honorably discharged in 1971. Paul lived in Latham from 1970 until moving to his home in Colonie in 2001. Paul worked at Tobin Packing Company for 20 plus years followed by a second career at Pepsi Cola. Paul was a lover of classic cars and was fortunate to have owned several over his lifetime, his favorites being his 1970 Dodge Challenger and his 1986 Corvette. He loved 50’s music, dancing, and having a beer with his friends and family. He was infamously known for his “one liners”, witty jokes and outgoing personality. He loved spending time with his family, Holidays and watching his grandchildren play football and lacrosse. In later years, he enjoyed meeting his old friends at the diner and going to the occasional car show. He was a loyal friend and was fortunate to have had many including Jerry, Bob, Joe, Sev, and others too many to name. Paul also was a lover of the ocean and he and his wife shared many trips with family to Ogunquit, Maine. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Joanne (Swierczynski), and his sons Scott and Brian (Jen Anderson). In addition, his grandchildren, John (Wyatt), Chris, Ethan, Nicholas and Madeline. Also survived by his sister-in-laws, Paula Young (Fred), Kathy Guest (Dave), Terry Dick (late Dennis). He loved them all as brothers and sisters, especially his “brother” Fred. Both being early risers, they texted back and forth every morning, sharing news of the day or pictures of great classic cars. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family, all of whom he loved. Special thanks goes out to the loving staff at NYOH and Community Hospice and the special “nursing angels” who helped Paul pass peacefully. Please enter the funeral home from the rear parking lot entrance only. Funeral services Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at 10:30 am at Blessed Sacrament Church, 607 Central Ave. (Father John Bradley Way), Albany, NY 12206 where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated.
