Nicholas DeMarco

Albany, NY-Nicholas DeMarco, 92, entered Eternal Life Friday, June 23, 2023 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy, NY, after a prolonged illness. Born in Abbateggio, Italy he was the son of Carmine and Carmela Simone DeMarco. Nick had a very strong work ethic starting in Italy as a young boy. He took great pride in being able to repair or construct almost anything needed at home. Nick became a hairdresser in 1955 and opened Nicholas Beauty Salon in 1957 in the Pine Hills neighborhood. His wife Mary became a hairdresser in 1971 and they began working side by side. Nicholas Beauty Salon had a large and loyal following, many of whom became friends. In its’ heyday, the shop was always busy and full of sounds of conversation and hairdryers. At holiday seasons Nick and Mary put out a spread of homemade Italian pastries and coffee for all to enjoy. Nick cherished time with Mary, his children and grandchildren and was happy to become a great grandfather. He loved family vacations to Cape Cod and the many festive family dinners. The grandchildren have many fond memories of fun and silliness with Tatone and Nonna. Nick enjoyed many varied interests and hobbies. He was a multi instrumentalist, a fine carpenter, wine maker, and gardener. He enjoyed fresh and saltwater fishing, reading, history and cooking favorite meals with Mary. He was the beloved husband, best friend and companion for 67 years of Marianna DeSanctis DeMarco; dear father of Carmela DeMarco Thayer (Lee) and Michael DeMarco (Jill Taylor); cherished grandfather of Lisa Thayer Fragomeni (Jason), Nicholas Thayer, and Taylor DeMarco (Stephanie Yacco); great grandfather of Grayson DeMarco and Landon DeMarco; many cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws survive. Please enter the funeral home from the rear parking lot entrance only. Funeral services Thursday at 10:00 am at St. Vincent De Paul Church, Albany, NY where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated. The Rite of Committal will be held at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Rensselaer, NY immediately following the Mass.
