Nancy Ann Zygmon

Albany-Nancy Ann Zygmon; born in Saratoga Springs, NY, died peacefully at her residence in Albany, NY surrounded by family and friends. She is the sister of Donna Rose Zygmon of Raleigh, NC and David T. Zygmon (Donna Lee) of Loudonville. She also leaves many cousins and an abundance of beloved friends. Nancy was predeceased by her parents Gloria Esposito and Stanley T. Zygmon. Upon graduation from Stillwater Central High School in 1974 Nancy accepted a secretarial position with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in Washington, DC. Later she returned to New York to commence a 30-year career with the State of New York, retiring from the NYS Office of Children and Family Services in 2008 as a Sr. Administrative Analyst. Her zest for life and concern for others was evidenced in her varied hobbies and passions. She was an accomplished pianist and also mastered the flute and fife, and enjoyed being a member of a local Fife and Drum Corps. As a young woman she studied tap dancing. Later in life she became a Disc Jockey, served as a volunteer guide at the Albany Museum of History and Art and joined Toast Masters of America, having won awards for her masterful recitation of all 18 stanzas of “The Raven”, the narrative poem by the American writer Edgar Allan Poe. It was her volunteer service, helping others, including the less fortunate, of which she was most proud. This included studying and mastering American Sign Language to become an interpreter, becoming a professional clown, known as Nutsy Fagen, to entertain children, becoming a volunteer on a Rape Crisis Hotline, serving as a volunteer for the Hands Across America Project and sewing AIDS quilts. Following her retirement she completed course work to become a Court-Appointed Special Advocate, having been administered the oath of office by Albany County Family Court Judges earlier this summer. Her goal was to help abused children who were placed in the foster care system. In 2002 she became a founding member and first Business Manager of the Committee to Produce the Sean Patrick French Memorial Run in Chatham, NY, an organization that raises money to fund programs at youth organizations and schools throughout the capital district to combat underage drinking. The family would like to express special thanks to Rev. David Nuss of St. Matthew Lutheran Church and School of Albany, Community Hospice of Albany County, St. Peter’s Hospital, and the staff at New York Oncology and Hematology. Funeral services Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at 11:00 am in the McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Tuesday, September 1, 2009 4:00 to 7:00 pm in the funeral home.
