Lillian Sellers Matejcak

In the early morning of July 29, 2023, Lillian Matejcak passed away peacefully at her residence in Troy, at the age of 97. Lillian was born in Clinton, NJ, to the late Davidson Miller and Margaret Sellers. Lillian married Joseph Matejcak on January 4, 1948, residing in Albany, NY where they raised their three children. They celebrated 62 years of marriage before Joe’s passing. For many years, Lillian worked part time as the head cook for Albany City Schools and volunteered teaching Sunday School at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Albany. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family; especially as grandchildren filled her life. This happiness continued with the birth of her first great-grandchild. She would be blessed with six more, and one great-great-granddaughter. Lillian was a wonderful, kind and gentle woman, who enjoyed reading, crocheting, cooking, baking, and feeding friends and family. She was one of tradition and “no big changes,” but many found her to be one of the strongest women they knew. In fact, she insisted on caring for her great grandchildren through her 80s and 90s – often driving herself to do so. She found great joy and purpose in these activities, which also kept her brain sharp and her body always on the move. While she didn’t like to travel much, she would do so, to visit with relatives near and far at the annual Walter-Miller Family Reunion each July. Lillian is survived by her brother Samuel “Park” Miller, daughter Lillian Robertson, son Clifford (Vickie) Matejcak, son-in-law Timothy Young, grandchildren Joshua (Colleen) Bradtke, Kristine (Jeff) Abele, Jennifer (Kevin) Shea, Robert Batcher, seven beloved great-grandchildren; Jacqulyn (Matt), Taylor, Annika, Reece, Regan Jo, Tristan, Remie Jo, and one great-great-granddaughter Charlotte. She was predeceased earlier this year by her oldest daughter Margaret Young, and son-in-law Don Robertson in 2021, along with her beloved siblings; Martha, Harry, Anna Fay, Davison, Emery, and Russell. Relatives and friends are invited to visit Lillian's family on Wednesday, August 23 at 9:30am followed by a service at 10am held at McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany, NY 12206. Please enter the funeral home from the rear parking lot entrance only. Military honors for her late husband Joseph & interment together will follow at 12:30pm sharp at the Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY 12871. After these services, a reception will be held at Saratoga Springs United Methodist, 175 Fifth Avenue, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
