Jeanne Vaill Conboy

Watervliet-Jeanne Vaill Conboy, loving wife and mother of five, passed away peacefully at the age of 90, on July 24, 2021. Jeanne was born to Clarence and Helen Vaill on May 29, 1931 in Goshen, CT. She and her older brother Gordon were raised on Crown Hill Farm in Goshen, where they showed horses, raised beef in the 4H Club and enjoyed the annual Goshen Fair. Jeanne’s father and brother were dairy farmers, as well as the 4th and 5th generation of the Vaill family to serve in the Connecticut State Legislature. Jeanne graduated from Litchfield High School in 1949 and Union University School of Nursing in 1952. She worked at Albany Hospital, Mount Sinai Hospital (Miami, FL) and Charlotte Hungerford Hospital (Torrington, CT) until she married James (Jim) M. Conboy, a young attorney, in 1955 at St. Anthony’s Church in Litchfield CT. For over 65 years, Jim and Jeanne had a loving and fun-filled marriage. Jeanne was a homemaker and caregiver to family and friends. Throughout her life, Jeanne selflessly devoted her time and her love to her family. She hosted and cooked many delicious holiday meals for her extended family well into her seventies. Friends in need were often the recipient of her delicious chicken divan. Jeanne also possessed a strong, quiet faith and was an active parishioner at St Pius X Church in Loudonville for over 55 years. Above all, Jeanne cherished her time with friends and family. She loved summer vacations on Lake George and enjoyed afternoons in August at Saratoga Race Track. While her husband analyzed the racing forms Jeanne bet on a name or favorite color with better results. As a member of Wolferts Roost Country Club for over 30 years, Jeanne was an active tennis player, golfer, bowler and bridge player. More recently Jeanne cherished her Shaker Pointe friends and active bridge group. She was a caring, loving person admired by many for her kindness, giving nature and approachable personality. Jeanne’s high school yearbook described her best: “Our Belle, seems to have found the secret of everlasting gaiety, and possesses a sweetness of yesterday combined with the merriment of today.” In addition to her husband Jim, Jeanne is survived by her very fortunate children, Kathleen Schreck (Peter) of Harwich Port, MA, Karen Appe (Stephen) of Harwich Port, MA, James Conboy (Jacinda) of Albany, Jeanne Bender (Patrick) of Albany and Maureen Conboy of Albany. Jeanne is also survived by nine grandchildren, Meghan Schreck (Jeffrey Winer), Peter Schreck, Bridget Olsen (Erik), Brendan Appe, Brooke Fleming (Peter), Kate Bender, Claire Bender, Brady Conboy and Dylan Conboy and 4 great grandchildren, Lucy, Henrik, Hazel and Ingrid. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Jeanne’s family Friday, July 30, 2021 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany, NY 12206. Please only enter the funeral home from the rear parking lot entrance; unvaccinated individuals must wear a mask and practice social distancing. Funeral services Saturday, July 31, 2021 at 10:00 am at St. Pius X Church, Loudonville, NY where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated. Please only enter the church from the front doorway; church ambassadors will be available to help with seating and questions; if vaccinated, please seat yourselves in main section of the Church (masks optional and no social distancing); if unvaccinated or are uncomfortable not social distancing, the two sides of Church are available where social distancing and masks will be required; and please attempt to arrive 15 minutes before.
