Catherine M. Paige

Albany - Catherine M. Paige, 74, passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2023, at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center in Guilderland after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Born Catherine McKinley in 1949 in Utica, NY, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Alice McKinley. As a young girl she moved to the city of Albany with her seven siblings and remained in the area the rest of her life. A graduate of Vincentian Institute, Catherine earned her teaching degree from the State University at Oneonta. She later went on to earn her Master’s degree from the State University at Albany. Catherine started her teaching career at St. Patrick's School in Troy. She then spent over two decades teaching English and Religious Studies at St. Teresa of Avila Middle School in Albany, becoming a beloved fixture to generations of students in Homeroom 101, and a mentor to many throughout the parish. After St. Teresa’s closed in 2006, Catherine continued to teach in a substitute role at various schools in the Albany area until her retirement. After retiring, Catherine enjoyed traveling with her husband of 51 years to their favorite spots along the east coast and Southwest. She loved volunteering, gardening, and spending as much time as possible with her grandchildren. Catherine is survived by her husband, David Paige, her son, John Paige, her daughter, Colleen (Jesse) Meharg, her two grandchildren, her siblings Rosemary Lenihan, Michael McKinley, Nancy (Steve) Kaiser, Patty (Pete) Kenner, Colleen (Frank) Radigan, Mary (John) Hutton, Christine McKinley and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Catherine's family would like to thank the considerate staff on E5 at AMCH, especially Sarah, the social worker. They would also like to thank the kind and loving nurses, aides, and staff at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center, especially Nurse Jennifer, for taking such good care of Catherine during her brief time there. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Catherine’s family on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm in the McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany, NY 12206. Please only enter the funeral home from the rear parking lot doorway. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at 10:00 am at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 900 Madison Avenue, Albany, NY 12208 where her Memorial Mass will be celebrated. The Rite of Committal will immediately follow the Mass at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.
